This week went well. Things at school are still busy, and overwhelming at times, and I feel as if I am still finding my feet as a teacher, but overall, I was happy with the progression of the week. The week has seemed to fly by. Wednesday morning, I woke up a little bit earlier than usual, started coffee, and did some yoga on the balcony. The whole day I felt more energized than usual, and it was a day at school that I was really pleased with. Thus, I have decided to add that to my day, as much as possible. Yes, I will be that crazy who arises just around 6 AM, does a sun salutation and tree pose on her balcony looking over the sea, and then gulps down some caffeine.
Tomorrow morning (very early), I am going to hop on a bus (okay, at 6 AM, I don’t think I’m hopping on anything, perhaps I shall schlump toward the bus) with a bunch of my fellow teachers, to go up yo Barranquilla. Barranquila is another major city in Colombia, about an hour (by bus, I think) up the coast to the northwest. We will be going to see Howard Gardner speak. If you just said to yourself, “Wait- THAT Howard Gardner?” I am guessing that you are probably a teacher, or just like education stuff. If you have ever taken an inventory that has shown you your strengths and “intelligence” in categories such as linguistic, logical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalist, or a few other qualities (I don’t have time to look it up at the moment), then you have been exposed to Howard Gardner’s work in multiple intelligences. It should be interesting, and I’ve never been to Barranquilla, so I am looking forward to that.
Well, I am tired and I am going to get going. Hope everyone has been doing well. Sorry again that I haven’t been in contact too often, or replying to comments and things ( I do read them, though!), but internet is still limited (grumble, grumble) and usually when I get a chance, I want to get on going home soon. Take care and have an awesome weekend!

Hi, my dear sweet Linnea, far from home:
At last you mentioned something I can relate to. Sun Salutations and tree poses and coffee. Whew! I’ve been getting lost in the thought of teaching first graders who don’t speak the language I speak. And there’s way more of them than me. That thought blew out my brain. But yoga I can relate to.
I am also concerned that swimming in the ocean after a hard day at work will ruin the Minnesota fortitude you were beginning to build up as you negotiated your way last winter through below zero wind chills.
Much love to you. I will be in Mpls next week pretending to be 4 yr old Emma’s daycare. We will play all day – Grandma Karen and Emma. But there’s only one of her. Aunt Karen

I like the idea of greeting each day with yoga. I was planning on doing just the same al of my first days in college. I for some reason or another slept through it each time. Oops.

Well, at least my sister knows what tree poses are!!!! Howard Gardner and multiple intelligence I do understand. Bravo, Linnea! I would think that Colombian caffeine is high test! I believe that 20 first graders would be a snap, even though they don’t truly understand me. One grandchild could be harder.
That familiarity thing. Anyway, glad things are beginning to gel. And especially that morning yoga helps! Much love, Mom
